Road National Championships, June 29-July 3
Aviawest-Rocky Mountain riders Fraser Hayes and Ryan Anderson made the trip east to compete in the 2006 Tim Horton's National Road Championships in Quebec City June 29-July 3. The boys were in the biggest race of the year as the 18 year olds were in their first real pro race with all of Canada's top racers taking a break from their European teams to be in attendance. In the Road Race the racing was, as expected, fast from the gun even thought the race distance was 180 km. Ryan and Fraser had great races, for the most part avoiding the numerous crashes and maintaining good pack position. With 20 of the 180 km remaining Fraser was dropped from the lead group and on the next lap Ryan also lost contact with the leaders. Still, Ryan finished 12th in the Espoir category and 39th overall. A great showing at this level of competition.
