  • To put primary focus on youth development in our Elite and Development Teams, with support from the Club.

Our History

Team Aviawest is a result of the evolution and merging of the Aviawest Cycling Club, the TeenSpeed Cycling Team, and Team Kappa.

Team Kappa has been the premiere woman's cycling team in Western Canada. It was formed in 2001 to provide opportunities for young women making their transition from junior to senior. The goal of the team was always to grow with the riders, providing the support they need as their careers develop. We have accomplished this beyond our wildest expectations. Team Kappa riders won World and National Championship titles and represented Canada at the Paralympic Games and the Road and Mountain Bike World Championships.

TeenSpeed is a Victoria based youth cycling club formed in 2000 that trains and competes year-round in road racing, track racing and mountain biking. TeenSpeed riders have consistently been the top finishers in all levels of racing in BC and in Canada. Many of them have competed as members of the Canadian National Team and BC Provincial Team at international junior races, Western Canada and Canada Games. Some of TeenSpeed's top riders are finishing their teen years and are now racing at much higher levels of competition.

The Aviawest Cycling Club is a club of 30 masters cycling and fitness enthusiasts eager to support and foster the development of young riders and racers. The members are "network hubs" in the community and great supporters of the team as leaders, professionals, former provincial, national and world champion athletes. Many are still active masters' athletes.

TeenSpeed and Team Kappa were both formed by Steve Lund, a former Canadian National Team Coach who saw a major deficiency in support and quality coaching for young and developing riders. It was Steve's passion and commitment to helping young riders that saw these programs excel and attract the support of some of Victoria's top cycling minds. With a broader management team and club level volunteers now in place it is our mission build the program and develop a top level support team for the many talented young riders pursuing their goals of racing at the highest level of the sport.
